THE SPECTACLE

Thesis Project (Oct. 2022 - May. 2022)

The project is about the spectacle and how people live in the spectacle where they all become part of the reality show. People no longer can tell what is performing and what is performed, and every moment they are all watching others and being watched by someone else. By employing combinations of filmmaking, physical and digital modelling and object montage, I have created a public commons of constant detournement within a city of spectacle – a New Babylon concretely situated in contemporary Manchester.

THE MAKERS REVIVAL

Old School Reused Project
Studio 2 (Nov. 2021 - Feb. 2022)

This project focuses on building reuse within a historical town located in the North West England called Accrington. The design aims to be a new social hub of Accrington, bringing out the best of Accrington within the journey through the building. Given the challenge to reuse St. James Old School, there is a opportunity to preserve the original charm of the existing building while integrating newly added spaces for a new art centre. The spatial experience is planned for encounters and opportunities to different activities and views. Inspired by Carlo Scarpa, the journey is designed for engagement with the original building fabric and character whereby the building is an ornament and part of the exhibition itself. The physical model helped to explain the concept and the relationship between the old and new.

Our agenda is to safeguard and transform a music venue Carlton Club into a vibrant community resource. With a vision that will take place over the next decade, it will become a space for local people to gather. An institution dedicated to promoting local culture, arts, heritage, inclusion, community resilience, well being and citizen participation. We will bring our building into full and productive use and be able to expand the potential of the club for the next ten years.
